Price guide
How much does a new bathroom cost in the Cotswolds?
Short answer
Gloucestershire firms publish basic bathroom refits from about £3,000 to £6,000. Mid-range refits run to about £10,000. One Cirencester design-and-fit firm starts full projects at £15,000 plus VAT. A national survey puts the average new bathroom at about £7,000. Prices vary; get at least three written quotes.
What local firms charge
Local published prices for a basic refit start at about £3,000. We found three firms in Gloucestershire that publish bathroom prices on their own websites. Most firms quote only after a visit.
A basic refit usually keeps the same layout and uses mid-priced fittings. A design-led project with new layout, tiling and premium fittings costs much more.

What makes a bathroom cost more
A new layout adds most to the cost, because the waste pipes and water pipes must move.
Old stone houses can need floor levelling, new joists or extra work to run pipes through thick walls.
Low water pressure may need a shower pump or a new cylinder. A pump that draws more than 12 litres a minute from the supply pipe needs notice to the water company.
A bath that holds more than 230 litres also needs notice to the water company before it goes in.
Electrics, tiling, plastering and decorating are often extra. Ask what is in the price.
How to compare bathroom quotes
Prices vary; get at least three written quotes. Give each firm the same plan, with the same fittings, so you compare like with like.
- Ask if the price includes VAT.
- Ask if the fittings are in the price, or if you buy them.
- Ask who does the electrics and tiling, and if they are in the price.
- Ask for a water regulations certificate at the end.
- Ask for a written plan with dates and stage payments.
Questions
Do I pay VAT on a bathroom?
Usually, if the firm is VAT registered. Some published prices include VAT and some do not. Always ask.
Why do bathroom prices vary so much?
The job varies. A like-for-like swap costs least. A new layout, high-end fittings and full tiling cost more.
Should I buy the fittings myself?
You can, but ask the firm first. Some firms do not give a warranty on fittings they did not supply.
